The district administration of Peshawar has initiated a crackdown on electric heaters within the city as part of its campaign to eliminate load shedding. A meeting, chaired by Commissioner Peshawar Muhammad Zubair, was held to discuss this action, during which it was decided to impose a ban on the sale and purchase of electric heaters and confiscate existing stocks from the market. Section 144 would be enforced in the district, completely prohibiting the sale and purchase of electric heaters. In the previous month, the government embarked on an initiative to transform Peshawar, the provincial capital, into a load-shedding-free model city, following the successful elimination of power cuts in the Mardan district. A comprehensive plan has been devised to expedite the collection of outstanding electricity dues from defaulting consumers and curb electricity misuse in Peshawar. Read Peshawar to be made load-shedding free To achieve this objective, directives have been issued to the district administration, police officials, and PESCO operational teams across the province. The plan also involves expediting the installation of meters in areas lacking this essential facility and increasing recovery targets for delinquent electricity consumers across all feeders. In the fourth meeting of the Provincial Task Force for Energy, substantial progress was reported. Published in The Express Tribune, November 9th, 2023.
