The Torkham border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan was closed briefly after a clash between the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) and the Frontier Corps personnel posted there, sources said on Sunday. They said that the FIA and FC personnel accused each other of interfering in their work. During the clash, they exchanged blows, leading to injuries to 13 officials – five of them from the FIA – who were taken to a hospital in Landi Kotal. The FC men held the view that border protection was their domain, therefore, they would check the documents of the passengers. The FIA staff, however, said that the FC men had no work inside the Immigration Section. Because of the clash, the Torkham border crossing was closed to all types of traffic. The border crossing reopened for pedestrian traffic after four hours. Hospital sources said that the injured people were out of danger.
