IHC orders compensation for family of missing K-P citizen

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) ordered the federal government on Monday to pay PKR 3 million in compensation to the father of Haroon Muhammad, a student missing from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) since the past 15 years. The court ordered the compensation to be paid before the next hearing. The petitioner’s legal counsel, Emaan Mazari, informed the court that the petitioner’s family has been receiving threats for pursuing the case. Read Missing persons — the reality Justice Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb instructed the Inspector General (IG) of KP to provide security to the petitioner and ordered the registration of a case against the security personnel involved. The court adjourned the hearing for two weeks. Earlier in January, a report by the Commission of Inquiry on Enforced Disappearances revealed that the highest number of missing persons in the country, 3,485, were from KP. Following KP, Balochistan had the second-highest number, with 2,752 disappearances.
