The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in KhyberPakhtunkhwa (K-P) has expressed serious concerns over holding separate elections of the national and provincial assemblies, demanding that all polls should be held simultaneously across the country. The party officials formulated their strategy for the elections in the province during a meeting held at the provincial secretariat.
The meeting chaired by Acting PPP President Muhammad Ali Shah Bacha was attended by senior leaders of the divisions and sub-wings. It was clarified in the meeting that the PPP was ready for polls, whether they would be held “today or tomorrow”. The party leaders were instructed to prepare for the elections and start campaigning. The PPP stated that the ECP was a constitutional institution, and the economic situation of the country would further deteriorate in case of any more chaos.
They noted that the PPP was the founder of the Constitution and institutions and “is bound to uphold the Constitution”. Bacha said, “The orders to weaken parliament are an insult to hundreds of millions of people, and the PPP believes in the supremacy of parliament and rule of law.” He emphasised that legislation passed in parliament was the law of the country. He added that interference in the jurisdiction of parliament was unconstitutional and illegal.
He said that PTI Chairman Imran Khan turned his guns towards the institutions and their leaders and that the country could not afford separate elections in the current situation. The provincial president accused Imran of spreading chaos and being involved in corruption. He also demanded of the NAB and other provincial accountability institutions to conduct investigations into the Bus Rapid Transit scandal and indiscriminate use of helicopters.
