May snowfall in Kalam breaks 30 years’ record

In an unlikely weather pattern in Pakistan, snowfall, hailstorm, and heavy rains in the Swat district not only brought the winter back in the month of May but also broke a 30-year record of snow in the hilly resort of Kalam. Kalam received 17 millimetres of rainfall while snowfall was reported in the upper areas of the region, which has been a weather record. Snowfall in May has happened after 30 years while the wet spell brought back the winter chill to the area. Read more: Snow-capped Burzil Pass opened for traffic In the last 24 hours, maximum rainfall (27mm) was reported in Kashmir’s Rawlakot, 17mm in Kalam, 22mm in Malam Jabba, 19mm in Hafizabad, 15mm in Joharabad, and 12mm in Chakwal and Mangla. On the other hand, maximum temperature was recorded in Shaheed Benazirabad, Larkana, Mohenjo Daro and Padidan at 42 degree Celsius. According to the weather experts, a dry weather will prevail in most of the plains in the country. However, upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar region, Islamabad, Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan will receive more rain with gusty winds and thunderstorm, while hailstorm is also expected at some places.
