A director of the Public Service Commission (PSC) was killed in a firing incident on Peshawar's Ring Road, Express News reported on Monday.
The director of the examination department, Irshad Khan, was en route from Charsadda to Peshawar for duty when he was targeted near Ranpur, said police, adding that his driver was with him.
According to the Khyber-Pakhutnkhwa (K-P) Police, Irshad Khan, son of Hamdullah Sakna, was in a government car when he was targeted by unidentified men and shot dead.
The area police reached the site upon receiving information and took the deceased’s body into custody.
Initial investigation was commenced and two bullet casings from a 30-bore pistol were collected from the site, among other evidence.
A case will be registered after completion of medico-legal formalities and coordination with the deceased’s family, said the police.
The incident comes amid a series of targeted attacks in Peshawar district in recent days.
Last week, at least two police personnel were martyred and another two were injured when militants opened fire at a check post in Peshawar.

According to officials, the policemen had set up a check post in the Regi Model Town area of the provincial capital when unidentified armed men opened fire at the police personnel, causing critical injuries to four of them.
The injured cops were shifted to Khyber Teaching Hospital, where two of them succumbed to their injuries. The other two were under treatment.
That same day, three other policemen and a civilian embraced martyrdom after two suicide bombers exploded in Bara.
According to the police, terrorists wearing police uniforms drove in a car to the Tehsil Offices Compound in Bara, Khyber District, and broke into the premises by cutting a barbed-wire fence.
As the intruders opened fire at the policemen on duty, two suicide attackers attempted to enter the premises through its main gate.
In retaliation, the security personnel present there opened fire at the suicide attackers, killing both of them.
However, because of the firing from the security personnel, the explosives-laden vests of the suicide attackers exploded, which resulted in the collapse of a part of the building, the officials said.
