The Insaf Lawyers Forum (ILF), Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, moved the Peshawar Registry of the Supreme Court on Monday, requesting Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial to take suo motu notice of the conviction of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman by an Islamabad court.
The petition in the apex court was filed after a general body meeting of the ILF, provincial chapter, chaired by provincial president and senior lawyer Qazi Anwar at the Supreme Peshawar Registry.
ILF, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, spokesperson Shah Faisal Ilyas said that the forum unanimously passed a resolution against the punishment and arrest of Imran Khan awarded by the additional district and sessions judge (ADSJ) of Islamabad on Saturday.
The petition, submitted to the registry branch of the Supreme Court in Peshawar, requested the chief justice to take notice of ADSJ’s decision, stating that the decision against the PTI chairman was controversial and his arrest illegal.
The petition further said that jail cell in which the PTI chairman had been kept did not even have basic facilities. Since the chief justice was the guardian of the Constitution of Pakistan, therefore, he should take notice of these matters, it added.
