Man acquitted in honour killing case

The Peshawar High Court has set aside the conviction of a person in an honour-related murder of his daughter and issued orders for his acquittal. A bench consisting of Justice Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Justice Sahibzada Asadullah accepted an appeal by the convict and overturned the sentence of life awarded to him by a trial court. Syed Shah Saud Advocate represented the accused during the proceedings. The case involved the accused, identified as Sharifullah, who was charged with the murder of his own daughter, allegedly in the name of honour within the jurisdiction of Gumbat police station in Kohat. Read More: Man kills wife for ‘honour’ Subsequently, the police filed a case against the accused under sections 302 and 311 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Sharifullah was arrested on September 12, 2020. The trial of the accused commenced, and on January 31, 2022, the additional sessions judge sentenced him to life imprisonment. However, following the completion of arguments, the PHC set aside the judgment issued by the trial court, ordering the acquittal of the accused. Published in The Express Tribune, October 10th, 2023.
