WSSP seeks Rs2.2b for salaries

The Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar (WSSP) has formally requested the release of Rs2.10 billion in outstanding funds from the Mayor of the Capital Metropolitan Government. These funds are intended for the payment of salaries and pensions to employees and for covering various operational expenses. The Chief Finance Officer of WSSP highlighted the company’s financial crisis, attributing it to a shortage of funds. He emphasized that, as per the SAMA agreement, it is the responsibility of the Metropolitan government to clear arrears from dissolved towns to the WSSP. Also read: Lahore’s sanitation at risk due to ‘corruption’ He further specified that Town-I owes Rs1.4 billion, Town-II owes Rs28.5 million, Town-III owes Rs30 million, and Town-IV owes Rs211.9 million in outstanding payments related to salaries, allowances, and ad-hoc relief for employees. The CFO of WSSP expressed the company’s inability to settle these dues to Town Municipal Administration (TMA) staff due to the lack of funds. He urged the Mayor to take the necessary steps to ensure the release of the outstanding amount for payment to TMA staff. Published in The Express Tribune, October 19th, 2023.
