A police constable was martyred in what appears to be a targeted attack and two security forces personnel were injured in a separate suicide attack in North Waziristan tribal district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) on Wednesday.
Police told The Express Tribune that on the outskirts of Mir Ali, Constable Akbar Khan was gunned down by unidentified terrorists who managed to escape after committing the crime.
Police reached the spot and conducted a door-to-door search operation in the area but there was no trace of the attackers.
The body of the slain constable was shifted to Mir Ali Hospital for autopsy.
In a separate incident, two soldiers were left injured when a security forces vehicle came under a suicide attack.
Their vehicle was also damaged in the attack. Both the injured were rushed to the Mir Ali Hospital and a large contingent of security forces cordoned off the locality.
It may be recalled that on May 31, at least two terrorists were killed in an Intelligence-Based Operation (IBO) launched by security forces in general area Dossali of North Waziristan district on reported presence of militants.
During conduct of the operation, intense fire exchange occurred between security forces and terrorists, resulting in the killing of two terrorists, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said in a statement.
Weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists who remained actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces and killing of innocent citizens.
Sanitisation of the area is being carried out to eliminate any terrorists found in the area, the military’s media wing further said.
Locals of the area appreciated the operation and expressed their full support to eliminate the menace of terrorism, it added.
Earlier this month, at least four people, including three security personnel, were martyred in a blast that reportedly targeted Liaquat Check Post in North Waziristan.
Two others, namely Hawaldar Manzoor and policeman Shakir, were injured in the attack.
According to the police, the attack claimed the lives of two security personnel, one police officer and one citizen in the Datta Khel tehsil of Miran Shah.
Similarly, security forces killed two terrorists during an exchange of fire in Dossali on June 2.
According to the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the exchange of fire took place when army troops effectively engaged the terrorists’ location and sealed all possible escape routes.
During the ensuing fire exchange, two terrorists were killed.
It said that weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the killed terrorists who remained actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces and the killing of innocent citizens.
If further said that sanitisation of the area is being carried out to eliminate any terrorists found in the area. Locals of the area appreciated the operation and expressed their full support to eliminate the menace of terrorism from the area, the statement added.
